Intel and Ericsson Collaborating on Laptop Anti Theft Technology

If you are a laptop owner, then Laptop security is of prime concern to you as laptop stealing is becoming quite common. If your laptop is stolen, your private and confidential data also gets stolen and that is a major cause of concern. To counter Laptop theft, Ericsson and Intel are collaborating to develop a killer technology which makes use of Intel Anti Theft Technology and Ericsson WWAN modules.

Using the new technology, Laptops can be disabled and enabled using a SMS. If a Laptop gets stolen, the technology will locate the Laptop globally and will disable it via SMS. The disabled laptop will not boot and a third party software will take care of the Encryption of Data. Thus the Laptop will become unusable for the thief. It uses the HSPA and GPS technology to protect the stolen laptop. The Laptop can also be disabled if it goes outside a particular range. The Anti Theft function on Intel chips will be triggered by cellular networks. Using it, Laptops can be prevented from Booting, data can be locked and encrypted, data can even be deleted or Laptops can even be traced using the GPS built in the laptop.
